Published the 02/08/2023

The Animal Detection and Driver Warning Systems Working Group (ADDWS) aims to evaluate the effectiveness of animal detection and driver warning systems in reducing wildlife-vehicle collisions and maintaining landscape connectivity. The group plans to focus on knowledge sharing, scientific testing and reporting, and technical development as the pillars of their work.

The key objectives of the working group are as follows:

  • Test and report on the effectiveness of various ADDWS systems in reducing collisions and enhancing landscape connectivity.
  • Gather and generate new knowledge on the effectiveness and applicability of ADDWS for different species.
  • Foster discussions and international collaboration among decision-makers, researchers, practitioners, and experts regarding ADDWS.
  • Develop best-practice guidelines for technical and data collection methods for ADDWS.
  • Disseminate the results through scientific and professional publications.

The proposed deliverables include a facilitated workshop for discussions between decision-makers and researchers, joint funding proposals for international collaborative testing, systematic international data collection, online repositories for data sharing, and publication through best-practice guidelines and scientific articles.
