Call for Abstracts and Session Proposals – IENE Conference 2026
The Infrastructure & Ecology Network Europe (IENE) is pleased to announce that the Call for Abstracts and Session Proposals for the International Conference on Ecology and Transportation 2026 is now open.
The conference will take place in Bristol, United Kingdom from 21–26 September 2026, bringing together researchers, practitioners, policymakers and infrastructure operators working at the intersection of nature and linear infrastructure.
IENE is an international network and conference series dedicated to understanding and addressing the ecological and social impacts of roads, railways, pipelines and power lines. The conference provides a focused forum for advancing evidence, policy and practice related to ecological fragmentation, landscape connectivity, wildlife–infrastructure interactions and the long-term sustainability of transport and infrastructure systems.
Submissions outside this scope will not be considered.
Strategic Themes
IENE 2026 will explore how infrastructure can be planned, delivered and managed to work with nature rather than against it, through four strategic themes:
The Value of Nature
Placing ecological and social value at the centre of infrastructure decision-making, while critically assessing investment frameworks, valuation approaches and nature-based solutions.
Resilience Through Nature
Strengthening climate resilience by working with ecosystem processes, while recognising ecological limits, thresholds and the risks of maladaptation.
Pace Over Perfection
Scaling up proven solutions to reduce fragmentation and severance across landscapes and infrastructure networks, balancing urgency with ecological integrity.
Cross-cutting Methods and Innovations
Advancing empirical evidence, monitoring, modelling, mitigation design and emerging tools that support effective and responsible infrastructure solutions.
