The meeting ‘Wildlife mortality on transport infrastructures’ was held in Barcelona on October 24th and 25th.
The sessions were focused on provide an overview of road mortality, gathering knowledge about its incidence in Spain and Portugal and reviewing the most operational methodologies to move towards obtaining standardized and comparable information in the Iberian Peninsula. More than 20 speakers from different professional sectors related on road mortality participated and generated a fruitful debate.
The field trip included a visit to the site where amphibian passages will be constructed at the Montseny Natural Park and a visit to the High-Speed Railway, where methods applied for evaluating wildlife mortality risks and for monitoring wildlife crossings and fencing effectiveness where showed.
The meeting was organized by the Spanish Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Department of Territory and Sustainability, Catalan Government, and with the support of IENE (Infra Eco Network Europe), the Museum of Natural Sciences, the Barcelona provincial council and ADIF (Administration of railway infrastructures).
