Fragmentation indicators Politicians and planners are in need of decision support tools (indicators) that help evaluating both the problem of fragmentation (the status-quo) and the achievements made in a region or country with respect to mitigation measures (monitoring, follow-up). For other topics related to transport and environment, such tools are under constant development and are used internationally by e.g., the EEA (compare TERM - Transport Environmental Report Mechanisms, http://www.eea.europa.eu/themes/transport/term). IENE has once contributed to TERM by introducing fragmentation indicators. However, these indicators should be revised and complemented.	0	No conversations started

Roadsides as refuges for threatened species In many occasions, road side vegetation has shown to provide valuable if not essential habitat to rare and endagared plant and animal species. The potential of roadsides to provide habitat in otherwise heavily affected landscapes has been discussed worldwide, but still road managers and maintenance entrepreneurs have not yet understood the fully grasped these opportunities. On the other hand, there is the risk to create ecological traps that, although they seemingly support lots of wildlife, may actually drain the landscape.
