IENE meetings 1996-2003
Since the foundation of the organization in 1996, an international IENE Open Day was organized annually. Until 2003, the IENE Open Day was a part of this annual conference in combination with meetings of the Cost 341 ('Habitat Fragmentation due to Transport Infrastructure') working groups.
The IENE Open Day is organized to give delegates of administrations (infrastructure and environment), policy makers (transport and environment/nature), ecologists, engineers and all kind off experts in the field of habitat fragmentation due to transport infrastucture the opportunity to exchange information. And to promote in this way the communication between the the different sectors involved both on a national as on an international level.
9th IENE meeting in Brussels, Belgium 11-12 November 2003
The IENE meeting was combined with an international conference on "Habitat fragmentation due to Transportation Inrastructure" and the presentation of the COST 341 products.

8th IENE meeting in Albufeira, Portugal 9-13 April 2002
The 8th IENE meeting was combined with the meetings of the COST 341 action and was held in the LTI- Alfamar hotel in Albufeira. The meeting was organized by Mrs. Helena Farrall from the New University of Lisbon.
There is no report of the 8th IENE meeting, since the IENE Open Day was canceled. 7th IENE meeting in Brussels, Belgium 24 - 28 April 2001
Report of the 7th IENE meeting
INTRODUCTION
The 7th IENE meeting was organized with the support of the Flanders Authority and the Institute of Nature Conservation in Brussels.
The meeting took place in the conference room 'Hadewijch' of the Flanders Authority, Where 14 experts gave presentations on different topics in the field of Habitat Fragmentation due to transport Infrastructure. The IENE Open Day was combined with meetings of the COST 341 Action and a closed meeting of the IENE members. The IENE Open Day was attended by 30 European experts and more then 80 participants representing the different flemish administrations and institutes of Transport and Environment.
6th IENE meeting in Sitges, Spain 5-7 April 2000
Report of the 6th IENE meeting
INTRODUCTION
The 6th meeting of the Infra Eco Network Europe has been organised and supported financially by the Swedish National Road Administration and the Spanish Ministry of the Environment, Directorate General for Nature Conservation and the Department of the Environment of the Autonomous Government of Catalonia. The meeting has taken place in Sitges, south of Barcelona, at hotel Estela between the 5th and 7th of April 2000.
The 6th IENE meeting was a combined meeting between IENE and COST 341 (”Habitat fragmentation due to transport infrastructure”) and brought together almost 50 experts representing 20 European countries. During the Open Day about 70 spanish professionals in infrastructure and environment were present. The oppurtunity to exchange information both ways and to establish contacts among them and the IENE representatives were positively exploited.
5th IENE meeting in Budapest, Hungary, 14 -17 April 1999

INTRODUCTION
The 5th meeting of Infra Eco Network Europe (IENE) has been organised and supported financially by the Swedish National Road Administration and Technical and Information Service on National Roads, Hungary. The meeting has taken place outside Budapest at the Budai Sport Centre between the 14th of April and the 17th of April 1999.
The 5th IENE meeting was a combined meeting between IENE and COST 341 ("Habitat fragmentation due to transport infrastructure") and brought together about 30 experts representing fourteen European countries. During two days, the open day and the excursion, about 60 Hungarian professionals in infrastructure and environment were present. The opportunity to exchange information both ways and to establish contacts among them and the IENE representatives were positively exploited.
4th IENE meeting , Brig, Switzerland 22 - 26 April 1998
Report of the 4th IENE meeting
INTRODUCTION
The 4th meeting of the Infra Eco Network Europe has been organised and supported financially by the Dutch Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management, the Swiss Agency for Environment, Forest and Landscape and the Swiss Ornithological Institute. The meeting has taken place in the city of Brig, in the heart of canton Vallais.
This event brought together more than 40 experts representing 16 European countries. About 15 Swiss professionals in infrastructure and environment were present along the three days of meeting. The opportunity to exchange information both ways and to establish contacts along them and the IENE representatives from abroad has been positively exploited
3rd IENE meeting, Vladimir, Russia 28 September - 2 October 1997
Report of the 3rd IENE meeting
INTRODUCTION
The third meeting of the Infra Eco Network Europe was organised by the Road and Hydraulic Engineering Division of the Dutch Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management, in cooperation with the Moscow State University and the Federal Highway Administration of the Russian Federation. This event has been attended by 18 IENE experts from twelve European countries and more than 30 Russian specialists in road construction and management, environmental protection and research, representing more than 20 national governmental organisations, research institutes, universities and non-governmental organisations covering almost the whole territory of the Russian Federation. The second day of the meeting has been dedicated to exchanging scientifical and technical information between the IENE group and the Russian representatives. This was a new item on the agenda of the IENE meetings ever. The meeting took place in the city of Vladimir about 200 km Eastwards from Moscow.
The main subjects tackled during this three days meeting were:
- introduction of new IENE members;
- assessing the process of network development on national level;
- COST Action 341 'Habitat Fragmentation due to Transportation Infrastructure';
- IENE in the future;
- study cases presented by the IENE members and the Russian experts;
- exchange of information and experience with the Russian colleagues.
2nd IENE meeting, Hoga Kusten, Seden, 9-13 April 1997
Report of the 2nd IENE meeting
INTRODUCTION
The second meeting of the Infra Eco Network Europe was organized by the Road and Hydraulic Engineering Division of the Dutch Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management, in cooperation with the Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute and the Swedish National Road Administration (SNRA). This event has been attended by 20 participants representing the IENE coordination points in twelve European countries and three international organizations: PIARC - the World Road Association, ECNC - the European Centre for Nature Conservation and the Directorate General VII - Transportation of the European Commission.
The perfect location chosen by the Swedish organizers close to one of the biggest infrastructure projects in Sweden under construction in a natural protected landscape has positively influenced the workshops of the meeting. Problems raised from the concern to integrate harmoniously roads and bridges in the natural landscape and to mitigate their negative effects on fauna have been actively debated by all the participants. The Höga Kusten bridge and the construction of a segment of the E4 highway has been taken as an example that motivates the importance of the activities developed by the Infra Eco Network Europe.
1st IENE meeting, Danube Delta, Romania 9-11 October 1996
Report of the 1st IENE meeting
INTRODUCTION
The first meeting of the Infra Eco Network Europe was organized by the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management, Division of Road and Hydraulic Engineering from the Netherlands, in cooperation with the Bucharest University, Department of Systemic Ecology and the Management of the Natural Capital, Romania. The workshops of this first IENE event have brought together the IENE National Coordinators of 11 European nations and the members of the IENE steering committee.
Between 9-11 October, surrounded by marvelous natural landscapes of the Delta of the Danube, the participants representing almost equally the two wide IENE fields of activity, engineering and ecology, have been concentrated on the following subjects: the establishment of Infra Eco Network Europe presentation of a preliminary report on the current situation in each country the topic and internal organization the future development
