- Objectives
- The overall goal of IENE is to work for an environmentally sustainable transport infrastructure in Europe and elsewhere.
- Background
- IENE - The Infra Eco Network Europe, has been established in 1996. After some years of inactivity, following the COST-341 action, IENE was re-established in 2008. The new IENE has slightly changed statutes and organisation, but purchases the same objectives and goals as the original network formed in 1996. Our hope is that IENE will develop into an active player at Euroepan level with concern to the environment and transport infrastructure.
- Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
- The MoU defines the framework for IENE, goals and organisation.
- Organisation
- IENE is a non-profit, formalized network of experts active in the field of habitat fragmentation due to transport infrastructure. IENE is administered by an international coordinator employed by the organisation hosting the secretariat. IENE is governed by an elected Steering Committee and the General Assembly of members. During 2009, the network’s secretariat is hosted by the Swedish Biodiversity Centre (CBM), and financed by an international consortium of organisations in the sectors of transport and environment. IENE initiates and hosts different activities and projects such as annual meetings, biannual scientific conferences, workshops and research projects each lead by a designated and international working group. For more details see IENE statutes.
